ATIS: LISTENING

Comprehension is key in aviation, we want to make sure you are getting it right.

We talked about it several times before, during the assessment, you may be asked to report what is mentioned in a given message. For example, you may be asked to report the wind speed and direction from a recorded ATIS or what was the clearance given to a pilot on a ATC recorded message.

“Keep a piece of paper and pen ready to take notes! Like a normal day in Aviation, whenever you are next to a radio, you will take notes. In this case, we want to make sure we can trust you with a message, that we can rely on you”

Would you take a challenge?

Some ATIS are computer generated recordings, while others are recordings made by the staff, like a meteorologist. Also be ready to catch up with their accents.

Like a sport, keep practicing at home. Dedicate a few moments per day to acclimatize your listening skills by watching aviation videos on youtube, listening to ATC Live comms, and why not, monitoring your favorite frequency whenever you are at a gliding field, aeroclub or airport.

Stay tuned for more tips! Thanks for reading!
